MISOO BANG

Misoo Bang is a Korean-born artist currently based in Vermont. Her emotionally charged paintings and drawings explore narratives of identity, trauma, and resilience. Her Giant Asian Girls and Lotus Flower series address the intersection of racial stereotypes and gender-based violence with a powerful, raw intensity.

Bang was born in the Bronx in 1980 but moved back to her parent’s homeland of South Korea when she was a one-years old. A short seventeen years later, she returned to the US with ambitions to use painting as her mode of emotional communication and storytelling. Misoo has exhibited in number of galleries and museums including, Boca Raton Museum of Art, Southern Vermont Arts Center, Bailey Contemporary Arts, Florida Atlantic University, Durham Arts Council, Palm Beach State College, University of Texas, University of Vermont, Girl’s Club in Fort Lauderdale, Burlington City Arts, Champlain College, Vermont Arts Council, Flemings Museum and Steinhardt Museum of Natural History in Tel Aviv. Bang was selected as one of the Emerging Artist of New England in 2019 and Vermont Artist to Watch in 2020, and currently lectures at University of Vermont.
